Do Different Colours Affect Your Mood?
Colour is all around us. We see it all the time. The psychology of colour is based on three psychological responses; emotional, behavioral and physical. It can create an uneasy feeling in certain rooms or very relaxed in another, this is called “colour of mood”. Colour often has different meanings in the various cultures.
Red – the most emotional intense colour, stimulates appetite and energy levels, urgency, passion, heat, love, strength and power, passion, speed and danger
Pink – is associate with things that are sweet and innocent, nurturing, has a short term calming effect, security
Orange – orange lowers hostility and is a very sociable colour, often used in fast food restaurants, movement, playfulness and warmth
Green – popular decorating colour, it is the easiest colour on the eye and can improve vision, hospitals use green because it relaxes the patients, brides in the middle ages wore green to symbolize fertility, dark green is masculine and implies wealth, seamstresses often refuse to use green on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck
Yellow- cheerful optimistic colour, people can lose their temper in yellow rooms, babies can cry more, it is the most difficult colour for the eye to take in, speeds up the metabolism, enhance concentration
Purple – wealth, royalty, sophistication, intelligence, spirituality, and philosophical
Blue – colour of the sky and the ocean, peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms, people are more productive in a blue rooms, honesty, integrity, truth, dignity, power, belonging, spirituality
Black – is colour of authority and power, it is timeless and stylish, black also implies submission, sophisticated, dignity, power, death, seduction, mystery and evil
Brown – solid, reliable, brown can be sad and wistful, men are most apt to say brown is one of their favorite colours.
White – brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity, white reflects light, represents cleanliness and sterility, purity and emptiness
