Staging A Fabulous Kitchen

The kitchen is the most important room in the house. It is a crucial selling point and minor remodeling is one of the most cost-effective investments you can make when it comes time to sell.

Here are a few ways to make your kitchen more appealing to buyers on a low budget.

  1. New paint is a solution if your kitchen colour is outdated.  Repaint dark, dramatic walls in soft neutrals, taupes and light greens for a more spacious feel. The colours you choose should complement the cabinets, floor and countertops and will need to work with the colour scheme in the rest of the home.
  1. If your kitchen cabinets are not in good condition or outdated, one of the easiest ways to revitalize a cabinet is to paint. Upgrading the hardware will also give the kitchen a newer fresh look.
  1. Have modern and energy efficient lighting in the kitchen.   Choose lighting that works with either a contemporary or tradional décor.  Under-cabinet lighting will create a more user-friendly kitchen.
  1. Create a spacious and organized kitchen “Clutter be gone”   Store or get ride of items you don’t use daily on top of countertops, kitchen cabinets, refrigerator and microwave.  Buyers should see this as an inviting spotless kitchen with plenty of counter space to entertain.  Pack up the cupboards and drawer of things not used to give the illusion of lots of storage space.
  1.  Less is more; remove all extra furnishings in the kitchen to create good traffic flow.
  1. Remove heavy dated window coverings and replace them with simple shades.  It is important to have natural lighting in the kitchen.
  1. Add the WOW factor by staging the kitchen with large art, flowers, fruit bowls with green apples and new towels
  1. Replace or refresh counter top if needed, fresh caulking and grout on countertops.
  1. If your sink and faucet look old and outdated replace them with new updated ones.  This will go along way towards improving the look of your kitchen.
  1. Make the kitchen sparkle with freshly washed windows, floors, appliance and countertops. If the floor is worn in spots consider an area rug.
